The Committee
made a suggestion for an approach which would assist in
• preservation of downstream water quality, should your
alternative incorporating a cluster design not be adopted.
The suggestions included close inspection during
construction phases to insure compliance with county erosion
control and sedimentation ordinances and incorporation of
additional measures which could offer further protection.
Several of these are the following:
1. Immediate seeding and stabilization of road
banks, ditches for underground utilities and
other soil exposed during construction.
2. Liberal use of rip-rap and nylon netting (seed
blanket) at culvert outfalls and any steeply
sloped ditch banks.
3. Prompt maintenance of silt fencing and
sedimentation basins.
4. Minor realignment of roads and creek crossings
so as to minimize cuts and fills and reduce the
grade percentage on any hills.
You may also have some ideas for things which would
further protect downstream water quality. I would be glad to
meet at your convenience to discuss these concepts further.
Sincerely,
,,e,11.4vL•nr\
udson Edeburn
Duke Forest Resource Manager
cc: Dr. Norman Christensen
Dean George F.
