Petroleum and natural cgas aretourltwo
principal forms of energy, supply g r
energy used. Consumption of petroleum has so that
domestic supply can no longer meet our needs. we are
now forced to import over one-half of our annual consumption.
Because foreign petroleum has risen sharply in price in
recent years, energy conservation is becoming increasingly
attractive as a way to reduce demand and save money.
Figure 2.5 shows the pattern of energy use in Orange County.
FIGURE 2.5
SOURCE: Energy in Orange County. Since the majority of total energy use is in these
two sectors, they offer the greatest potential savings from
conservation efforts. In the residential sector, space
heating and cooling consume the greatest amount of energy.
Conservation can be achieved through building code
i Source: Energy in Orange County.
