May 5, 1989
DON IVILLHOIT
Senator Wanda Hunt
P.O. Box 1335
Pinehurst, NC 28374
Dear Wanda:
This is to inform you that the Orange County Board of
Commissioners acted to recommend to you an amendment to
Senate Bill 339 (Uniform Roadside. Hunting) . This amendment
would eliminate from Section 113-291.9(b) the following
"unless a person owns or possesses a leasehold interest in
real property situated on either side of the road or
highway". The Board believes that hunting from any roadway
should be illegal as it is dangerous to both homeowners and
motorists.
If this bill cannot be amended consistent with the
above, our Board urges the rejection of the bill because it
would render our current local, legislation which precludes
hunting from roadways in Orange County invalid. We would
prefer a consistent statewide ban on such activity. However,
if that is not possible, we would not like to have our bill
effectively repealed by;SB339.
If you have questions, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Moses Carey, Jr. , . - r
Board of Commissioners
Eribab
File
cc: Representative Anne Barnes
Representative Joe Hackney
Senator Russell Walker
Board of County Commissioners
