The <br /> airport has a basic and general utility <br /> classification, serving general aviation needs as <br /> well as the UNC Medical School. the University of <br /> North Carolina. the N.C. Memorial Hospital and <br /> local businesses. <br /> Residential development over the past two decades. <br /> including the construction of two schools. Guy B. <br /> Phillips Junior High and Estes Hill Elementary. has <br /> encroached upon the airport. Two other schools - <br /> Seawell Elementary and Chapel Hill High School - <br /> are also nearby. Residents and school officials <br /> have complained about noise associated with airport <br /> operations and the threat to the safety of student. <br /> The Chair of the Board of Commissioners desires to <br /> appoint a Task Force for the purpose of finding <br /> another site for the airport. Advertisements have <br /> been placed in newspapers to attract persons <br /> interested in serving on the Task Force. The Task <br /> Force would include UNC and N.C. Memorial Hospital <br /> representatives as well as Town and County <br /> residents and officials. <br />
