Taylor, Town Manager <br /> Subject: 1989-90 Chapel Hill Transportation Improvement Program <br /> Date: March 27, 1989 <br /> The attached resolutions would approve the proposed 1989-90 <br /> Town of Chapel ai 1111 Thoghfaream�lic Transit and Bicycle <br /> Transportation Improvement <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> Attached is the recommended list of thoroughfare and bicycle <br /> projects for Chapel Hill to be included in the State <br /> Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) . <br /> The priority ranking <br /> that we propose is based on previous requests made to the State, <br /> as well as our analysis of local transportation needs. Also <br /> attached is the recommended transit element to the TIP. The two <br /> resolutions included in the packet would approve the <br /> thoroughfare/bicycle element and transit element as proposed. <br /> THOROUGHFARE PROGRAM <br /> The North Carolina Board of Transportation will hold public <br /> hearings during May and June to gather information on State-wide <br /> transportation needs. Information presented at these hearings <br /> will be used to update the State's 10-year Transportation <br /> Improvement Program which allocates federal and State funds for <br /> transportation projects State-wide. <br /> All of the projects listed in the 1989-90 element are <br /> consistent with the Town's adopted Thoroughfare Plan. The program <br /> of thoroughfare improvements included for your approval is <br /> identical to the program approved by the Council last year. <br /> Nothing listed in the 1988-89 program has been completed. <br /> Revisions to the adopted Chapel Hill-Carrboro Thoroughfare <br /> Plan have been proposed. At such time as any of those chgesre <br /> adopted by the Council they will be considered for incorporation <br /> into future TIP requests. <br /> The requests for roadway improvements are grouped by three <br /> federal funding sources and the Transportation System Management <br /> (TSM) category. <br /> Federal-Aid Primary routes are major State-maintained roads <br /> within Chapel Hill limits. <br />
