(Local) <br /> • <br /> Sponsors: Representatives Hackney and Barnes. <br /> • <br /> Referred to: Government. <br /> • <br /> March 27, 1989 • <br /> 1 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED <br /> 2 AN ACT TO MAKE SUNDRY AMENDMENTS CONCERNING LOCAL <br /> 3 GOVERNMENT IN ORANGE COUNTY. <br /> 4 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: <br /> ti 5 Section 1. (a) Section 5.23 of the Charter of the Town of Chapel Hill, <br /> 6 being Chapter 473, Session Laws of 1975, as added by Chapter 330, Session Laws of <br /> 7 1977, and renumbered to be Section 5.33 under G.S. 160A-496, reads as rewritten: <br /> 8 "Sec. 5.33. ' - - : • ; - - - . - _ • - : :: Tree protection <br /> 9 regulations. The Town is authorized to adopt ordinances after holding of a public <br /> 10 hearing thereon, to regulate r• al- Mandril removal and substantial alteration of <br /> 11 trees and shrubs and their surrounding soils from public and private property within <br /> 12 the town and its extraterritorial planning jurisdiction in order to preserve, protect, <br /> 13 and enhance one of the most valuable natural resources of the community, and to <br /> 14 protect the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens." <br /> 15 (b) All development and zoning ordinances of the Town of Chapel Hill <br /> 16 enacted and all steps taken by that town to enact development and zoning ordinances <br /> 17 prior to the effective date of this section which would have been valid under <br /> 18 subsection (a) of this section are hereby validated, ratified, and confirmed. <br /> • <br /> • <br /> ti <br /> • <br />
