. . ,
•
4019 Stoneycreek Rd.
Chapel Hill , NC 27514
April 6, 1989
Orange County Commissioners
Hillsborough, NC
Dear Commissioners:
There are undoubtedly going to be numerous attempts to undo
the carefully laid plans of the Commissioners, Planning Board and
other people who have successfully drawn up a comprehensive Land
Use Plan for Orange County and to fragment/penetrate the Rural
Buffer which is part of this plan.
._
Such an attempt is now before you with the proposal of the
Envirotech people to build a gas station/convenience store at the
1-40/New Hope Church intersection.
I believe that two basic questions must be addressed by these
developers before you should even consider their proposal :
1. Why is the gas station/store needed? There are adequate
facilities nearby, particularly with the new center being
planned near Old B6 and I-135. Who wants the facility, other
than the developers?
2. Why should the Land Use Plan and Rural Buffer plan be
abandoned? What overriding circumstances justify putting this
facility within the Rural Buffer?
 |
Unless Envirotech can clearly answer at least these two
! questions to everyone's satisfaction, I personally see no reason
for considering - let alone approving - their proposal . I hope
that there are not political considerations which will affect the
( decision of this proposal .
Sincerely,
~ ~_-_ _
Roy. __, ~ -~Roth
