<br /> The Cary Town Council, during its regularly scheduled meeting,
<br /> held Thursday, February 23, 1989, discussed the Regional Transporta-
<br /> tion Authority concept. The Town Council authorized me to write the
<br /> North Carolina Department of Transportation to express our approval,
<br /> in principle, of the legislation authorizing formation of the
<br /> Authority. This approval, however, was conditioned upon the Town of
<br /> Cary's appointing one of the five representatives from Wake County.
<br /> The Town of Cary has always been considered a leader in municipal
<br /> planning, and the Cary Town Council feels that planning and implement-
<br /> ing a Regional Transportation Authority is in the best interest of
<br /> the Town as well as the region.
<br /> . .
<br /> I look forward to working with members of the Department of Trans-
<br /> portation and the other elected officials in the region to ensure that
<br /> the legislation we need is enacted.
