Describe the current and future needs of homeless people in your community <br /> for emergency shelter and other services. <br /> The homeless population of this community needs many transitional housing <br /> resources to enable them to find employment, seek appropriate counseling <br /> if necessary and accumulate enough money for move-in expenses. The Inter- <br /> Faith Council anticipates these needs remaining the same in the future. <br /> Therefore, a larger facility which houses various social services provider <br /> would be desirable. <br /> 2. What is the approximate number of homeless persons in your community/service <br /> area? <br /> According to the report of the Chapel Hill Task Force on the Homeless, <br /> there are as many as 50 homeless persons in Orange County at any given <br /> time needing emergency shelter. There are also several additional <br /> persons who live in automobiles, abandoned houses or any place they are <br /> undisturbed. In 1988, the Community Shelter served approximately 281 <br /> homeless persons. <br /> 3. Please define the community/service area used in answering question 2 above. <br /> Orange County is the community/service area including all incorporated <br /> towns within the County. <br /> 4. What programs and services are available to the homeless in your community <br /> (including those provided by government, private nonprofit agencies and other <br /> organizations)? <br /> The Inter-Faith Council provides the only overnight shelter for <br /> homeless persons in Orange County. However, many other agencies <br /> provide temporary assistance to persons needing clothing, money and <br /> short-term assistance. The Agencies include Orange Congregations in <br /> Mission, Joint Orange Chatham Community Action Agency and the local <br /> Department of Social Services.
