6 <br /> ATTACHMENT 2 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY FAIR HOUSING COMPLAINT PROCEDURE <br /> Housing Discrimination is prohibited by Title VIII of the <br /> Civil Rights Act of 1968 and by the North Carolina State Fair <br /> Housing Act. In an effort to promote fair housing and to <br /> ensure that the rights of housing discrimination victims are <br /> protected, Orange County has adopted the following procedures <br /> for receiving and resolving housing discrimination <br /> complaints: <br /> 1 . Any person or persons wishing to file a complaint <br /> of housing discrimination in Orange County may do <br /> so by informing the Housing and Community <br /> Development Department of the facts and <br /> circumstances of the alleged discriminatory act or <br /> practice; <br /> 2. Upon receiving a housing discrimination complaint, <br /> the Orange County Housing and Community Development <br /> Department shall inform the North Carolina Human <br /> Relations Council (Council ) about the complaint. <br /> For information only, the Orange County Human <br /> Relations Commission will also be informed 'of all <br /> complaints received. The Housing and Community <br /> Development Department shall then assist the <br /> Council and the complainant in filing an official <br /> written housing discrimination complaint with the <br /> Council , pursuant to the State Fair Housing Act and <br /> Title VIII. <br /> 3. The Housing and Community Development Department <br /> shall offer its assistance to the Council in the <br /> investigation and conciliation of all housing <br /> discrimination complaints which are based upon <br /> events occurring in Orange County. <br /> 4. The Housing and Community Development Department <br /> shall publicize within Orange County that is is the <br /> local agency to contact with housing discrimination <br /> complaints. <br /> Adopted 3/21/89 <br /> • <br />
