COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IN PROJECT • • (Answer al questions only in the space provided) ' • INSTRUCTIONS ACTION legislation requires that the low-income Community to be served by VISTA Volunteers participate in planning. developing,and implementing the VISTA project.Your responses to questions below must demonstrate how you plan to meet these requirements. ACTION legislation also requires the VISTA project to generate the commitment of private sector resources and volunteer service at the local level to carry out the purpose of the project.The sponsoring organization must plan for the phase-out of VISTA Volunteers and for the performance of the Volunteers'functions by local citizens. 1.Describe In specific terms haw the law-Income people the project proposes to serve are being Included In the Winning.developmen;and Implementation of the project. A special VISTA Advisory Council will be formed and staffed by the Project Director. A majority of the members (5-10) will represent the low income community. Orange County has already met with and received the commitment of the • Human Services Management Team and C.A.T. Human Services Transportation Board. Specific agencies who have endorsed the project are: N.0 Agri- cultural Extension Service, Orange-Person-Chatham Mental Health Center, County Department of Social Services, Department on Aging, County Recreation Department, County Health Department, Housing and Community Development, Commission for Women (See support letters) . Each agency is willing to commit- staff and volunteer resources to a coordinated Outreach effort. The Association of Community Agencies (ACA) composed of private agencies will be informed about the VISTA project and asked to request assistance. The RSVP Program, sponsored by Orange County, would be requested to help with volunteer recruiting.
