1
ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Action Agenda
Item No. VL
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: February 21 , 1989
SUBJECT: BID AWARD: RENOVATION OF BUILDING FOR ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICES
DEPARTMENT: PURCHASING PUBLIC HEARING YES: NO: XX
ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: PAM JONES
EXT 498
BID TABULATION Telephone Number-
SITE LAYOUT Hillsborough -732-8181
• PROPOSED FACADE PLAN Chapel Hill -967-9251
PROPOSED FLOOR PLAN Mebane. -227-2031
Durham -688-7331
PURPOSE: To consider awarding a bid for renovation of the old laundry
building on the grounds of the Revere Road County Annex,
to house the offices of the Health Department-Animal Control Division.
• •
BACKGROUND: The Animal Control offices are presently located in the
County Annex on Revere Road. Since the inception of the Animal Control
Ordinance the activity in this division has increased significantly and
they have now completely outgrown available space. There are six •
employees operating in 200 square feet of office space.
As shown on the attached diagrams, the outside facade will closely
resemble the facade on the main building, thereby somewhat tying the
site together as a complex rather than single buildings. The floor
plan is designed to be open in order to visually maximize the
approximately 1300 square feet. There will be only one enclosed office
in the building. In addition, the reception area to the front of the
building is designed in a manner that should allow for more efficient
handling of citizens.
The apparent lowest bidder for this project is Holt Construction
Company, Graham, NC at a cost of $65,840. An alternate was included in
this bid to allow for removal of a block of concrete down the center of
the floor where the washers were located when this building was used as
a laundry. It is possible the concrete extends out and under the
floor further than we anticipate, thereby requiring a greater amount of
demolition and repair. The cost of the alternate is $1 ,010. We are
requesting that the Board approve the award for $66,850 with the
understanding that $1 ,010 expenditure may not be required.
•
