Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br /> Re: Request For Amendment <br /> Sign Ordinance <br /> . . <br /> Dear Mr. Kirk, <br /> Meadowlands Associates (ML) requests that Orange County <br /> consider the following items for amendment to the existing <br /> sign ordinance. <br /> The following notes are extracted from the Orange County <br /> sign ordinance with proposed revisions or amendments as <br /> necessary to implement our proposed sign plan. <br /> 1. The Orange County sign ordinance requires 25.' 0" setback' <br /> from right of way in I-1 zoned areas. <br /> A. We would propose to amend the above to 10' 0" setback. <br /> This is crucial for our proposed tenant Id. signs, as the <br /> current ordinance allows for 371/2 square feet of the sign <br /> area per face, with the current allowed setback of 25' 0". <br /> Our concern is 'that the distance from the roadway for this <br /> type of sign would render it useless in its functiontT.of <br /> identification, unless the setback could be amended as <br /> proposed. <br /> • <br /> 2. The Orange County sign ordinance allows in an I-1 zoned <br /> area within a major transportation corridor district, the <br /> maximum of two signs at a total of 75 square feet of sign <br /> area. <br /> . _ <br /> • <br /> _ - <br /> • A. . we would proi:iiiie• amending the maximum number of signs to <br /> . <br /> . four. --„This would allow the additional directional signage <br /> that. a Major industrial complex or facility would require to <br /> • <br /> control' on premise traffic. Four signs would include the ": <br /> . main tenant Id. sign with three additional directional-- :---- <br /> ' <br /> service Signs. • <br /> • - <br /> Note: 1) There- is also the possibility of addressing the <br /> _ section in the. ordinance. which: allows for 4 square foot- <br /> . directional signs. Directional signs on private property <br /> not exceeding 4 square feet are exempt from permit <br /> - requirements. However, 4 square feet is much too small of <br /> an area to be effective for our use.
