21 <br /> VOTE: Ayes, 6; Nays, 1 (Commissioner Burroughs) <br /> Commissioner Burroughs said in reference to Commissioner Price's nomination that <br /> there is a subcommittee on the BOH, who had interviewed the candidates and made the <br /> strong recommendation of Johanna Birkmayer. She said she would like to honor the <br /> recommendations they made. <br /> Commissioner Price said she nominated Dr. Barber because of her experience. <br /> Commissioner McKee he would agree with Commissioner Price, and does not question <br /> the vetting of the other candidates, but feels Dr. Barber brings specific expertise and diversity <br /> to the BOH. <br /> Commissioner Marcoplos asked if boards do their own vetting of applicants. <br /> Donna Baker said there is not a set vetting process, but most boards do their own <br /> vetting and put forth recommendations to the BOCC. <br /> Chair McKee said some Boards have special positions with specific requirements. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said he came prepared to vote for the BOH recommendation, <br /> but since someone else was brought up that was qualified, he did not follow through on that <br /> recommendation. He respects and wants to support boards that vet candidates, especially for <br /> specialized boards; and in most cases he chooses to honor the recommendation of a given <br /> board. <br /> b. Chapel Hill Orange County Visitors Bureau —Appointment <br /> The Board considered making an appointment to the Chapel Hill Orange County <br /> Visitors Bureau. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Rich, seconded by Commissioner McKee to <br /> appoint the following to the Chapel Hill Orange County Visitor's Bureau: <br /> Appointment to a first full term (Position #6) "NC High School Athletic Association" <br /> position for Kayla Austin expiring 12/31/2019. <br /> Commissioner Marcoplos asked if the role of a "special representative" could be <br /> defined. <br /> Commissioner Rich said the Visitor's Bureau has specific targets for how many people <br /> serve on the board from specific areas. She said the position that is open this evening is for a <br /> specific role, and other positions will become available in the future. <br /> Chair Dorosin said there has been a lot of discussion about these designated positions, <br /> and their value. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> c.
