BOO % C J U (I
Subject: Changes to the Orange County Arts Commission Grants Process
At the Orange County Arts Commission (OCAC)Advisory Board Meeting on Monday, February 13, 2017, changes to the
OCAC grants program were approved by the board. These changes were the result of recommendations made by OCAC
director Katie Murray based on feedback from the arts community and the North Carolina Arts Council (NCAC), as well
as a subcommittee formed to examine the current grant structure. These changes are to go into effect with the
upcoming grant cycle, opening in April. More details regarding the changes outlined below are available upon request.
The purpose of these changes is to adhere to the newly set goals of the OCAC grants program:
1. To follow the requirements set forth by the NCAC as the Designated County Partner for Orange County
2. Fund high-quality, diverse, arts projects and organizations within Orange County
3. To make the application process as simple and efficient as possible
4. To constantly encourage a new pool of diverse applicants
5. To serve as good stewards of state/county funds, ensuring proper use of funds and reporting
GRANT SCHEDULE CHANGES
• We will have one annual cycle for all funds, rather than two, adhering to the NCAC suggested timeline. This will
condense the process into once a year, freeing up the director and board's time for new projects. The yearly cycle
will open in April and close in June, with grantees being notified by August 1 for projects taking place July 1—June 30
of the fiscal year.
GRANT APPLICATION CHANGES
• We will be transitioning from five grant applications to two: Grassroots Arts Program Grant Application and Artist
Project Grant Application
• We will remove the current request limits on grant applications. Rather,we will offer a suggested range of$500-
$2,500 per application
• Schools wishing to receive grant funding for FY17-18 will be required to go through the grant application process for
the 2017 cycle; however, the OCAC plans to create a partnership program with The ArtsCenter (per
recommendation of NCAC)to create a more robust, far-reaching Arts in Education Program. This will make the
funding and talent booking process simpler for all involved and will also guarantee the use of funds on high quality
programming.
PANEL PROCESS CHANGES
• The OCAC will follow the NCAC Priorities of Funding guidelines for both pools of funds.
• Incomplete applications will be eliminated from the review process.
• The panel review process will be more in-depth and private through an advance evaluation process and a private
scoring process.
ORANGE:::: COUNTY ARTS COMMISSION
2Q• :z<.uth conter<.>r Stleef Hillsb<.>r<.>ugh, NC 2727£3
919 245 2335 www.csrts.,<.7resnge.<.7rg artsssM<.7resrge<z untyrc.goy
