Board of Health —Appointments <br /> 7 The Board considered making appointments to the Board of Health. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 A motion was made by Commissioner Burroughs, seconded by Commissioner Rich to <br /> 10 appoint Jennifer Deyo to a first full term (Position #2) "At-Large Pharmacist" position, expiring <br /> 11 06/30/2019. <br /> 12 <br /> 13 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 14 <br /> 15 A motion was made by Commissioner Burroughs, seconded by Commissioner Rich to <br /> 16 appoint for Johanna Birkmayer to a partial term (Position #8) "At-Large Citizen/Commissioner <br /> 17 Appointment" position, expiring 06/30/2018. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 VOTE: Ayes, 3 (Commissioner Rich, Commissioner Burroughs, Commissioner Marcoplos); <br /> 20 Nays, 4 (Chair Dorosin, Commissioner McKee, Commissioner Jacobs, Commissioner Price) <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Motion fails. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner McKee to <br /> 25 appoint Dr. Barber to (Position #8) "At-Large Citizen/Commissioner Appointment" position, <br /> 26 expiring 06/30/2018. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 VOTE: Ayes, 6; Nays, 1 (Commissioner Burroughs) <br /> 29 <br /> 30 Commissioner Burroughs said in reference to Commissioner Price's nomination that <br /> 31 there is a subcommittee on the BOH, who had interviewed the candidates and made the strong <br /> 32 recommendation of Johanna Birkmayer. She said she would like to honor the <br /> 33 recommendations they made. <br /> 34 Commissioner Price said she nominated Dr. Barber because of her experience. <br /> 35 Commissioner McKee he would agree with Commissioner Price, and does not question <br /> 36 the vetting of the other candidates, but feels Dr. Barber brings specific expertise and diversity to <br /> 37 the BOH. <br /> 38 Commissioner Marcoplos asked if boards do their own vetting of applicants. <br /> 39 Donna Baker said there is not a set vetting process, but most boards do their own <br /> 40 vetting and put forth recommendations to the BOCC. <br /> 41 Chair McKee said some Boards have special positions with specific requirements. <br /> 42 Commissioner Jacobs said he came prepared to vote for the BOH recommendation, but <br /> 43 since someone else was brought up that was qualified, he did not follow through on that <br /> 44 recommendation. He respects and wants to support boards that vet candidates, especially for <br /> 45 specialized boards; and in most cases he chooses to honor the recommendation of a given <br /> 46 board. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 b. Chapel Hill Orange County Visitors Bureau —Appointment <br /> 49 The Board considered making an appointment to the Chapel Hill Orange County Visitors <br /> 50 Bureau. <br />
