Attachment 1 <br />JOB TITLE: Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor <br />DEPARTMENT: Solid Waste, Orange County <br />JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of <br />automotive vehicles, small departmental support equipment, heavy construction equipment, a <br />large truck fleet, plus all processing equipment located at the recycling operations facility, <br />including serving as supervisor to Heavy Equipment Mechanic I positions. <br />MAJOR DUTIES: <br />o Oversees and performs routine and preventive maintenance on all landfill and recycling <br />equipment, administrative vehicles and light, medium and heavy equipment used in <br />department operations. <br />o Diagnoses the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic component of any breakdown on all <br />equipment which may include reviewing flow charts, schematics, manuals, etc, <br />o Performs mechanical repairs, which may include engine, transmission, front and rear <br />differential, brakes, final drives, hydraulic pumps, motors, starters, electrical problems, <br />fabrication, etc. <br />o Develops and implements the department preventive maintenance program and schedule to <br />prevent major breakdowns and detect problems before they become major. <br />o Develops, recommends and oversees the equipment maintenance and repair budget for the <br />department, which includes the Recycling, Administration and Landfill divisions. <br />o Supervises lower level Mechanics, including recruiting, training, performance evaluations, <br />counseling, disciplining, and scheduling and prioritizing work; ensures that assigned work is <br />completed accurately and timely, <br />o Supervises Landfill Equipment Operators, Landfill Inspectors and Weighmasters in the <br />absence of the Landfill Operations Manager, <br />o Develops and oversees lock-out and long out procedures for all department equipment, <br />o Develops and submits necessary bid documents for the department including evaluation of <br />bids; recommends whether to replace or repair equipment to the Director; ensures that <br />department remain in compliance with state and county bid laws; updates department's <br />replacement schedule on an ongoing basis. <br />o Oversees the work order system within the Department; enters all work orders into the <br />computer system; runs reports and improves data base system for additional information <br />resources. <br />o Uses reports generated from computer to prepare expenditures and budget projections.
