<br />Position #41 Heavy Equipment Mechanic II (Proposed Heavy Equipment Mechanic
<br />Supervisor)
<br />• Oversees and performs routine and preventive maintenance of all landfill and recycling
<br />equipment, administrative vehicles and light, medium, and heavy equipment used in
<br />department operations.
<br />• Diagnoses the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components of equipment. Performs
<br />mechanical repairs which may include engine, transmission, front and rear differential,
<br />brakes, final drives, hydraulic pumps, motors, starters, electrical problems, fabrications, etc.
<br />• Develops, recommends and oversees the equipment maintenance and repair budget for the
<br />department. Responsible for ordering parts and paying invoices.
<br />• Maintains records and coordinates with Public Works necessary data for the monitoring of
<br />and compliance with County vehicle fuel conservation polity.
<br />• Supervises lower level mechanics, including recruiting, training, performance evaluations,
<br />counseling, disciplining, scheduling and prioritizing work; ensures that assigned work is
<br />completed accurately and timely.
<br />• Supervises Landfill Equipment Operators, Landfill Inspectors and Weighmasters in the
<br />absence of the Landfill Operations Manager and Solid Waste Operations Manager.
<br />• Develops and submits necessary bid documents for the department, evaluates bids,
<br />recommends replacement or repair of equipment to the Director; updates department's
<br />replacement schedule on an ongoing basis.
<br />• Oversees work order system within the Department, enters all work orders on computer
<br />system, runs reports and improves data base system for information resources..
<br />• Ensures maintenance facility is clean, safe, and meets all regulations for such a facility
<br />according to state and federal laws..
<br />Duties of Class Heavy Equipment Mechanic I
<br />Maintains and repairs a variety of automotive and heavy constriction equipment and other
<br />support equipment with engines and motors on them. Performs detailed preventive maintenance
<br />on all vehicles and equipment. Works with established maintenance schedules for each piece of
<br />equipment. Diagnoses the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components of any breakdown on
<br />all equipment, which may include reviewing flow charts, schematics, and manuals. Etc. Performs
<br />mechanical repairs which may include engine, transmission, front and rear differential, brakes,
<br />final drives, hydraulic pumps, motors, starters, electrical problems, fabrications, etc. Repairs the
<br />recycling processing areas electrical and mechanical equipment when needed. Responds to road
<br />call repairs when vehicle breaks down away from the landfill Completes work orders on an
<br />ongoing basis and turns in to supervisor when completed. Operates equipment as needed and
<br />assigned.
<br />Position #42 Heavy Equipment Mechanic I
<br />Principle responsibilities are repair- and maintenance of truck fleet used in the recycling and
<br />landfill hauling operations, maintaining the processing pad's equipment (bailers, compactors,
<br />etc), and other small vehicles and support items necessary for day to day operation of the
<br />department.
