Heavy Equipment Mechanic I positions and serves as back up supervisor to five Landfill <br />Equipment Operators, three Landfill Inspectors, and two Weighmasters in the absence of <br />the Landfill Operations Manager. <br />In order to supervise landfill activities and functions, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic II has <br />become certified as a Technical Associate for "Manager of Landfill Operations". This <br />certification is also a requirement for the Landfill Operations Manager. <br />In the past, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic II was solely responsible for the maintenance <br />and repair budget for heavy equipment. Now, this role has been expanded to include <br />oversight of the equipment maintenance and repair budget for the entire Solid Waste <br />Department which includes the Recycling, Administration and Landfill divisions. <br />The Solid Waste Director requested that Personnel complete a current classification and pay <br />study to take account of the new duties and responsibilities assigned to the Heavy Equipment <br />Mechanic II position. Personnel has completed this review. Based on the classification study, <br />Personnel is recommending that the existing Heavy Equipment Mechanic II (Position 865) at <br />Salary Grade 15 be reclassified to the new class title of Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor <br />at Salary Grade 17 to recognize a broader scope and higher level of duties and responsibilities. <br />This position now is vacant. With approval of the reclassification, Personnel will initiate <br />recruitment for a new Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funds to implement the results of the classification and pay study are <br />available within the approved budget for 2005-06. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board amend the Classification <br />and Pay Plan to add the new class of Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor at Salary Grade <br />17 effective February 1, 2006.,
