19 <br />Supervisor expands existing recycling and waste reduction programs by identifying potential <br />points for new collection of recyclable materials as well as working to maintain and improve <br />current programs. Confers with residents, private business owners, and governmental <br />agencies/representatives on issues regarding recycling and waste reduction. Provides high <br />quality customer service to citizens and ensures that collected materials are properly prepared <br />and of sufficient quality for shipment to processors. Interacts with the public on a wide variety <br />of subjects and provides information and education on multiple programs available to citizens. <br />Investigates complaints and takes appropriate action on resolving disputes. Assists Recycling <br />Programs Manager with the preparation and oversight of program budgets. Prepares and <br />manages contracts and special agreements for supervised programs. Assists Recycling Programs <br />Manager with program analysis and development. <br />General Duties for Class Recycling Materials Handier <br />Recycling Materials Handlers perform intermediate skilled work collecting and processing <br />recyclable materials, including recyclable materials from businesses, residences, governmental <br />office buildings, and recycling drop-off sites, All work is performed under general supervision. <br />Material processing includes identifying and separating recyclable materials at recycling <br />processing area at the Orange County Landfill, sorting recyclable materials into appropriate <br />categories, cleaning recyclable materials and removing contaminants, and preparing recyclable <br />materials for transfer to market. Recycling Materials Handlers inspect loads of recyclable <br />materials to ensure they meet established market standards. Some Recycling Materials Handlers <br />may be required to hold and maintain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), and the employees <br />in these positions may also collect Recyclable Materials in commercial vehicles and haul <br />recyclable materials to market. <br />Recycling Materials Handlers operate and maintain equipment associated with recycling <br />operations including skid steer loaders, balers, magnetic separator, aluminum can flattener and <br />blower, glass crusher, pallet.jacks, lift gates, pickup trucks and other non-commercial vehicles, <br />and hand tools. Those Recycling Materials Handlers required to hold a CDL also operate front- <br />end loading truck, multifamily recycling truck, curbside recycling truck, and roll-off truck. <br />Recycling Materials Handlers must perform truck and equipment inspections, and are expected <br />to assist in performing needed preventative maintenance on operated vehicles and equipment. <br />Recycling Materials Handlers perform general maintenance including cleaning of litter, debris, <br />and overflowing recyclables from recycling drop-off sites; cleaning and maintenance of <br />recycling processing area at the Orange County Landfill; assembly and distribution of recycling <br />carts; and maintenance and repair of fences and equipment associated with recycling program. <br />Recycling Materials Handlers also notify supervisor of program progress, perform customer <br />relations when interacting with citizens, perform other tasks in support of Orange County's waste <br />reduction and recycling efforts as needed and required. <br />Position # 26 Recycling Materials Handler <br />Collect recyclables from government buildings using box-truck.
