1.3 <br />• Coordinates equipment specification preparations for landfill equipment. <br />• Maintains knowledge of various relevant state and federal regulations. <br />• Oversees major landfill equipment purchases. <br />• Explains solid waste disposal and recycling regulations to the public. <br />• Maintains all records pertaining to landfill operations, including records related to weights of <br />vehicles entering the landfill to deposit materials and types of materials that are deposited. <br />• Operates landfill equipment as needed. <br />Position #10 and #11 Weighmaster <br />These positions are responsible for operating the scale management system by weighing vehicles <br />and collecting fees at the landfill station. <br />• Operates a specialized computer scale management program to weigh refuse brought to the <br />landfill; audits loads by remote camera or visual inspection to ensure load conforms to <br />customer's dumping permit. <br />• Collects payments and issues receipts or charges the customer's account based on weight of <br />vehicle; posts all receipts and charges to computerized billing system database; prepares all <br />data for monthly bills. <br />• Inspects the contents of vehicles to ensure no hazardous or prohibited items are disposed of <br />at the landfill. <br />• Explains regulations and fees to customers; directs them to correct dumping location. <br />• Denies access to customers with delinquent accounts and unacceptable loads; answers all <br />customer inquiries about the landfill or landfill bills. <br />• Sets up new customer, accounts; verifies status of new contract haulers, assigns truck <br />numbers for billing and determines weight of truck. <br />• Inputs weight, load and other charge data into computer database and prints a bill/receipt for <br />the customer. <br />• Maintains daily records of disposal activities; produces regular and special reports on sales, <br />tonnage, materials and related landfill records using a computerized database. <br />• Coordinates with Solid Waste personnel and Finance on all aspects of accounting and billing. <br />• Notifies supervisor of scale equipment maintenance needs and maintains records of <br />equipment failures. <br />• Performs minor repairs and maintenance. Opens and closes electronic gates to landfill and <br />landfill satellite operations. <br />• Opens and secures scale house at end of day. <br />• Balances cash drawer. <br />• Answers the telephone, takes messages, and gives information on landfill fees and hours of <br />operation. <br />The landfill is open a total of 56.5 hours per week, from 6 AM until 4:00 PM Monday, Tuesday, <br />Thursday, and Friday, from 7:00 AM until 4:00 PM on Wednesday, and 7:30AM until 12:00 PM <br />for public use. Scheduling of personnel requires an overlapping of staff during the busy times of <br />the day and to provide frill coverage for the week. The duties of these positions are the same as <br />listed above.
