Approximately 30 percent of students receive free/reduced lunch. Cedar <br /> Ridge High School opened in the fall of 2002, graduating its first class in 2004. CRHS is one of <br /> two comprehensive public high schools in the Orange County Schools' district. CRHS maintains <br /> a dual enrollment relationship with area colleges and actively collaborates with various <br /> community agencies and organizations. Over 50% of the certified staff at CRHS have advanced <br /> degrees with 14 teachers holding International Baccalaureate certification. In addition, 17 <br /> teachers hold AP certification, and 21 teachers hold National Board Certification. CRHS is <br /> accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges and the North Carolina <br /> Department of Public Instruction. Add F/R lunch rate <br /> is <br /> This year, Cedar Ridge High School will host Cultural Explosion in April 2017, which is a district- <br /> wide event designed to bring cultural awareness to students and families in the Orange County <br /> Schools' district. Orange County Schools, comprised of 13 schools, includes seven elementary <br /> schools, three middle schools, three high schools and an alternative school all located in <br /> Hillsborough and Efland. Approximately 42% of students within Orange County Schools receive <br /> free/reduced lunch. <br /> School Arts Program <br /> Cedar Ridge High School offers Art, Band, Theatre, and Chorus to students. <br /> Within Orange County Schools, elementary students participate in Art and Music as part of their <br /> special area classes, and middle school students can participate in Music, Art or Band. <br /> Proposed Use of Grant Funds <br /> On April 27, 2017 Cedar Ridge High School will host Cultural Explosion, an Orange County <br /> SchooisLdistrict-wide-eventfor students and families-within-the-Orange County-Schools'-district— <br /> Cultural Explosion will bring together all schools –elementary through high - in Orange County <br /> and the surrounding communities to celebrate diverse cultures from around the world and <br /> recognize their impact on education. This event is comprised of student performances, <br /> interactive culturally-themed booths and demonstrations, community organizations and food <br /> vendors with an international flair. With more than 1,000 students and their families expected to <br /> attend, the event provide multiple opportunities for learning about a variety of cultures across <br /> the globe in one venue. This year's theme is Celebrating the Beauty of Earth and Its Inhabitants, <br /> which encourages cultural understanding, as well as respect for the world in which we live. Each <br /> school is assigned a different continent and/or geographic area to study, and they will then <br /> create a booth to host at Cultural Explosion as a way to share the information they learned in a <br /> hands-on way. Classroom teachers and special area teachers are very involved in the process, <br /> several of which who serve on the planning committee, so this is a true collaborative effort. <br /> There is also a poster contest for students, a multicultural mask-making activity and continental <br /> beading activity. <br /> Funding from the Orange County Arts Commission will support two artistic pieces of Cultural <br />
