4 <br /> Attachment <br /> C9080 -11/93 <br /> 4-H PROGRAM ASSISTANT <br /> GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: <br /> Performs intermediate paraprofessional work providing assistance with <br /> 4-H programs for youth and adults; does related work as required. <br /> Work is performed under general supervision. Limited supervision is <br /> exercised over volunteers. <br /> TYPICAL TASKS: <br /> Assists the 4-H Extension Agent in planning, implementing and <br /> coordinating various 4-H programs for youth and adults; <br /> Identifies and recruits prospective volunteers for 4-H programs; <br /> Coordinates recognition events for volunteers; <br /> Provides technical assistance required for implementation of 4-H <br /> programs; <br /> Assures programs are provided with adequate materials and supplies; <br /> Writes a monthly school-age child care newsletter; <br /> Writes quarterly news articles for local newspapers; <br /> Provides information and trains teachers and administrators in public <br /> and private schools on school science enrichment activities; <br /> Identifies school-age child care providers in Orange County and <br /> provides information and training on how to use the 4-H curriculum; <br /> Coordinates garden activities with after-school coordinators, school <br /> administrators and volunteers; <br /> Organizes, supervises and evaluates summer enrichment programs <br /> for school-age children; <br /> Maintains appropriate records on participants and volunteers; <br /> Performs related tasks as required. <br /> KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: <br /> General knowledge of the functions and objectives of 4-H programs; <br /> general knowledge of the philosophy, policies and procedures affecting <br /> 4-H programs and other Extension services; general knowledge <br /> of the techniques used to recruit, train and motivate volunteers; <br /> general knowledge of public and private school systems; general <br /> knowledge of science and gardening concepts; ability to establish and <br /> maintain effective working relationships with volunteers, students, <br /> public school officials, day care operators, community agencies and <br /> organizations, other employees and the general public; ability to <br /> communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to prepare <br /> and maintain records. <br /> EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: <br /> Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation <br /> from an accredited community college with major course work in social <br /> services, liberal arts or related field and at least one year <br /> experience working with volunteers, or work involving public contact. <br />
