MEMORANDUM
TO: Orange County Board of Commissioners
FROM: John Link, County Manager //
DATE: October 28, 1993
RE: TYHA Board Appointments
I offer this memo as a basis for discussion by the Board about the
process for making the County' s appointments to the Triangle Youth
Hockey Association Board of Directors .
To this point, we have been proceeding under the assumption that the
Board of Commissioners would appoint 6 directors, one less than a
majority of a 13 member board. I have spoken with Dan Kidd who
proposes that in the interests of moving quickly, the revised TYHA
Board should contain only 7 members at the outset, perhaps expanding to
13 in the future. Under that arrangement, the Commissioners would
make 3 appointments to the Board at this time.
The Board of Commissioners needs to decide how it will go about making
appointments to the TYHA Board. I think it would be wise to have the
revised board in place before any major steps concerning construction
of the facility are taken, while recognizing TYHA' s sense of urgency in
trying to have the facility completed by next fall. You could follow
the procedure of soliciting open applications for the appointments, or
in the interests of time, might consider a more targeted approach. If
you pursued the latter, you could solicit representatives of certain
agencies, functions, or user groups, or even ask staff to contact
specific individuals about their interest in serving. In anticipation
of that possibility, I asked Bob Jones to develop the attached list of
possible County appointees to the TYHA Board. None has been contacted
about willingness and ability to serve, which would have to be done
before appointment.
Staff and I appreciate your direction on how we can help you with TYHA
Board appointments.
fi
