//-
From Treyburn rezoning application
Treyburn is virtually surrounded by water. Lake Hydrology
Michie , to the north , supplies Durham' s water. Falls
Lake , to the southeast , is Raleigh' s source. The
Little River Reservoir, to be completed by January
1986 , lies to the west of the site and will augment
Durham' s water supply. The Eno River , south of
Treyburn , runs east-to-west. It joins with the Little
river, which runs through Treyburn , to feed Falls Lake.
The Flat River, running from Lake Michie to Falls Lake ,
is to the east. All three of these rivers have an
average width of 30 to 40 feet although this varies
along their length.
Three main watersheds have been defined by the ridges
on the site ; the Little River Watershed , the Eno River
Watershed , and the Flat River watershed.
The Little River Watershed is the largest on the
Treyburn property although only a small portion
actually drains into the reservoir. The majority
drains into the Little River. The western boundary of
this watershed will ultimately define the Water Quality
Critical Area. All of Treyburn is in the watershed of
the Fall River reservoir and drains into class C
portions of the lake. However, there are two other
watersheds within the Flat River; the Little River and
the Eno River watersheds.
Approximately 300 acres of the 100 year floodplain lies
within the Little River watershed. This area can be
used for recreation or as pervious areas of developable
Iparcels .
The Eno River Watershed lies in the southern portion of
the site. The smallest of the three, it drains into
the Eno river.
' There are seven perennial streams on the site. The size
of these streams fluctuates with the amount of
rainfall . The importance of their preservation is
irecognized.
Scattered throughout the Treyburn property are
approximately six pockets of water (agricultured ponds)
ranging in size from one to five acres. These small
water bodies can be used as amenities and potential
sources of irrigation supply.
•e
2.6.1 _ .
