8.0 RECOMMENDED WATERSHED MANAGEMENT PLAN
8.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents the major management recommendations for Lake Michie
and Little River watersheds. The recommendations cover nine major areas:
o Water quality goal
o Overall approach to nonpoint pollution management
o Nonstructural controls
o Structural BMP's
o Wastewater disposal
•
o Institutional requirements
o Financing requirements
o Regulatory requirements
o Ongoing watershed management program
Benefits of the recommended watershed management plan are summarized in the
final section of -this chapter.
8.2 WATER QUALITY GOAL, -
Based upon .both quantitative and qualitative indicators, _the -existing water
quality of Lake Michie appears quite satisfactory for water supply uses as.
does the existing water quality projected for Little River Reservoir.
Consequently, it is not necessary to specify a water quality goal-which -
wouldfrequre an .improvement in water quality over existing conditions,
based on the information at hand.
Either the nonstructural approach or the structural BMP strategy (or
combinations of the two) can sufficiently mitigate future nonpoint
pollution impacts to ensure that water quality criteria are generally met.
Insofar as projections of future water quality in both water supply
8-1
•
