99
A RESOLUTION REGARDING THE PROPOSED ORANGE COUNTY WATERSHED
PROTECTION ORDINANCE (93-9-27/R-2 )
WHEREAS , the Council of the Town of Chapel Hill recognizes the
community value that the Cane Creek Reservoir represents to its
citizens ; and
WHEREAS , the Council is committed to maintaining a high level of
water quality in the Cane Creek watershed; and
WHEREAS , the Orange Water and Sewer Authority will be conducting a
technical study of the Cane Creek Reservoir.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council recommends the
Orange County Board of Commissioners consider:
1 . Apply the same minimum lot and impervious surface limits to
the entire Cane Creek Reservoir watershed as proposed for
University Lake watershed, basically 5-acre minimum lots plus
other strong protective measures; and
2 . Continue to prohibit all commercial or industrial land uses
throughout the Cane Creek watershed; and particularly to
remove the option of allowing 5% non-residential development
with up to 70% impervious surface area.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council supports these amendments
as an appropriate conservative strategy, pending the results of a
detailed technical study.
This the 27th day of September, 1993 .
