DocuSign Envelope ID:955CF8D2-2C10-4E40-BC25-542ECC04AE02
Proposed Use of Funds
Karen Youth Art Group: Funds will be used to continue the development of the students'
artistic talents through one-on-one teaching by FRANK artists and volunteers reinforced with
additional trips to museums and cultural events. One of the Youth Group, Ree Ree Wei, will
have an exhibition of her photographs and research focusing on the plight of undocumented
Hispanic students in our community. The exhibit will be the capstone of her high school senior
year project. Support from OCAC will enable us to have her photos and exhibition materials
printed and framed for the exhibit. Given the sensitivity of the project, she is being assisted by
Lah Htoo Boh, who is inserting drawings and digitally crafted colored images where
photography would be inappropriate. We are also beginning to explore film making with a UNC
photography intern, Bri Ladd, and see the exploration of this medium as an important addition of
the group. As several of the youth look ahead to college, funding would also be used to support
their portfolio development.
Rogers Road Community Center: Funds will be used to begin a yearlong community
awareness project. With a multicultural comprised of 6th to 9in grade students, the Rogers Road
neighborhood, which includes Habitat for Humanity, has a rich history (including a plantation
house with slave quarters) and a diverse population that the children will be investigating and
illustrating through drawings, paintings and photographs under the tutelage of FRANK members
and volunteers. The results of the project will be displayed with the Karen Youth Group work in
the Community Outreach Gallery in April 2017. Tape recorders and additional camera
equipment would enable the children to interview older residents of the area for first-hand
accounts of the area's history. The results will be organized into a suitable format. Member artist
Nerys Levy is overseeing the project. Dr. Levy also oversaw the development and printing of the
Group's "Transplanting Traditions" book.
$1,000 for FRANK:inFocus:
Show Card for the County $250
CLICK!
