3. Worked to enable COG to use the Geographic Information System & Infrastructure <br /> Survey Projects to evaluate the growth potential of the Region and help influence how <br /> the Region is marketed. Met with Watts Carr of NCDOC to emphasize TJCOG interest <br /> in state/regional cooperation on GIS for economic development. We are now a party to <br /> the state planning for this project. Set up a presentation on GIS to Triangle Commercial <br /> Real Estate Exchange. <br /> 4. Promoted regional cooperation among chambers and local governments. Held <br /> several meetings with RDRA leaders and new staff,Rita Quinn. Worked on the <br /> American Airlines Hub retention and London Gateway efforts. Regional Group <br /> Leaders gathering has resulted in a new initiative of a Regional Town Hall. <br /> 5. Regional Marketing Group session at Treyburn with speaker from NC Biotechnology <br /> Center was held to facilitate a buyer/supplier exchange between RTP firms and <br /> regional economic development professionals. Oriented this group toward assisting the <br /> WCR's regional marketing venture at a meeting in Hillsborough. Explored combining <br /> this group with the quarterly meeting of state developers from this Region,but State <br /> staff has little time to pursue, so will proceed with collaborative efforts with RDRA. <br /> 6. Planned Downtown Quarterly Exchange programs for the next 18 months, under <br /> new chair Eleanor Kinnaird,Mayor of Carrboro. Met 1/28 at the RTWTC, and in <br /> Carrboro on 4/1, and plan to meet (in Wake Forest) on implications for our towns of the <br /> Americans with Disabilities Act. (In the process of sharing this information and the <br /> convening function with the newly formed Raleigh Region of the NC Downtown <br /> Development Association.) <br /> 7. Successfully assisted the effort for Extended Area Telephone Service for Wake <br /> County and Orange County. Held several sessions with company representatives to <br /> explore ways to solve telecommunications problems in the urban core of the Region. <br /> Supporting toll free access for outlying communities (Benson, Fuquay, Pittsboro, <br /> Smithfield/Selma,Wake Forest) to the RTP. Continue monitoring of the <br /> implementation of the toll reduction plans. Worked to prevent the 919/910 area code <br /> change within Chatham,Johnston and Orange Counties. <br />
