quadrant of the intersection, Orange Water and Sewer Authority owns property which was <br /> obtained in 1979 when the quarry operation was relocated to its present location, This property <br /> contains the old quarry pit which is being utilized as the present Quarry Reservoir. Also in the <br /> northeast quadrant, Nello L. Teer Company currently operates an asphalt plant. <br /> 3.3 Cultural Resources <br /> The cultural resources described in this section include schools, churches, cemeteries, parks and <br /> recreational areas, as well as historical and archaeological resources. <br /> 3.3.1 Schools, Churches and Cemeteries <br /> Although there are no schools near the project site, there are two nearby churches, each with an <br /> associated cemetery. The locations of these churches and cemeteries are denoted on Figure 3.3 <br /> Bethel Baptist Church is located on SR 1104 at SR 1103, The congregation was organized in <br /> 1851 and the existing structure was built in 1900. Hickory Grove Baptist Church is also located <br /> on SR 1104. The church community was organized in 1877, with the structure being built in <br /> 1905. <br /> An unnamed cemetery is located immediately west of relocated SR 1104 on quarry property. The <br /> cemetery contains approximately 15 grave sites. <br /> 3.3.2 Parks and Recreational Open Space <br /> There are no existing public or private parks or recreational facilities near the project area. There <br /> is however, one quasi-public facility nearby. The Tarheel Sertoma Club meeting room is located <br /> just west of the project area (see Figure 3.3). The Sertoma Club is a civic organization that <br /> provides services to the hearing impaired. <br /> There are no other public, quasi-public or private parks or recreational facilities adjacent to the <br /> project area. <br /> 3.3.3 Historical and Archaeological Resources <br /> According to files reviewed at the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), there are no National <br /> Register sites and no sites nominated for inclusion on the National Register in the vicinity of the <br /> project. There are also no sites on the State List of historic places near this project area. <br /> 3-4 <br />
