Chapel Hill has a demand <br /> for 737 lead safe units. <br /> According to the Orange County Health Department, one case of <br /> lead based paint poisoning has been reported in Orange County in <br /> 1993, and there are 10 other children that have tested for <br /> borderline to low lead based paint poisoning. All children who <br /> receive medical treatment from the Well Child Clinic between ages <br /> 1 and 6 are tested for exposure to the health threatening <br /> substance. <br /> ii. Assisted Housing Inventory. <br /> A. Public Housing Currently, there are 312 units of assisted <br /> housing in Chapel Hill. These are the only conventional public <br /> housing units in Orange County. As of June 30, 1993, 11 of these <br /> units were vacant, 10 of which are due to rehabilitation. <br /> The majority of Chapel Hill ' s 312 assisted housing units are <br /> two bedroom units. The various locations of units throughout Town <br /> eliminates isolation of public housing residents from the remainder <br /> of the community. The 3% vacancy rate in Chapel Hill ' s public <br /> housing units is equal to HUD' s acceptability rate.
