The CGNA is located in the Cedar Grove <br /> Community Center at NC 86 North Hillsborough,North Carolina. The Community Center and <br /> programs have been in operation since June. The official ribbon cutting ceremony was held on <br /> June 18, 2016. The Community Center was approved by the Orange County Board of <br /> Commissioners and Mr. David Caldwell was appointed the Community Center Coordinator. We <br /> are currently in our first year of operation with an Interim Coordinator, Mrs. Gwen Stephens. <br /> Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all citizens in the CGNA community. <br /> Our purposes include: <br /> A. To promote academic development,physical development, safety,wellness, citizenship <br /> and to enhance social, cultural and diversity awareness. <br /> B. To advance the quality of life, housing, employment welfare and recreational interest of <br /> citizens in the community. <br /> C. To act and advocate on problems involving health,wellness, environmental issues and <br /> other needs as they relate to the CGNA Community. <br /> D. To cooperate with Orange County Agencies with common goals in promoting programs <br /> of mutual concern as directed by the Orange County Commissioners. <br /> E. To work and collaborate with all Community Centers in Orange County. <br /> F. To encourage every member of the CGNA to find ways to serve others in the community. <br /> Current Programs and Services <br /> Current programs include the following: <br /> • A six week Summer Enrichment Program free for school age students. The first Summer <br /> Enrichment Program had a major focus on the STEM areas with an integrative approach <br /> to address other areas. <br /> • Our Summer Enrichment Program focus 2017 to continue to focus on the STEM areas <br /> and place additional emphasizes on Arts and Cultural Diversity. <br /> • Senior programs ranged from sewing, crafts, bingo,recycling, Japanese Beetles, shoe <br /> shine,making pickles, health issues and making neckties. <br /> • A variety of presentations such as Medicare, Glaucoma, Scamming the Elderly, <br /> Understanding your Medications, Energy Conservation and Library services were <br /> conducted. <br /> • Provided college and high school students opportunities to complete community service <br /> hours and serve others in the community. <br /> • Physical fitness activities include walking, cool walk and warm walk in the gym. Citizens <br /> have opportunities to work out on the exercise equipment daily. <br /> 1 <br />
