1 <br /> O R A N G E C O U N T Y <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: OCTOBER 4 , 1993 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item # ,]a-K <br /> SUBJECT: AMENDMENT TO BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ' GOALS SCHEDULE <br /> DEPARTMENT: COUNTY MANAGER PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> MANAGER'S OFFICE, EXTENSION 2300 <br /> REVISED GOALS SCHEDULE <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Chapel Hill - 967-9251/968-4501 <br /> PURPOSE: To approve amendments to the timelines for the goals <br /> of the Rural Character Study and the Hillsborough <br /> Cooperative Planning Zone that would allow the action <br /> steps of these goals to follow a logical sequence <br /> after the adoption of watershed protection measures. <br /> BACKGROUND: Marvin Collins, Planning Director, has advised me of a <br /> decision point which impacts on three separate but <br /> intertwined goals - Watershed Protection, the Rural <br /> Character Study and Hillsborough Cooperative Planning. <br /> Specifically, citizens may be confused by/concerned <br /> about the Rural Character options without a decision <br /> first being made on the watershed standards. <br /> Likewise, some Rural Character development options may <br /> have to be revised to take into account adopted <br /> watershed standards. <br /> As you may recall, the adopted Rural Character Study <br /> schedule called for township meetings in September, <br /> 1993 to present the various development options. <br /> Staff has also been developing reports concerning the <br /> small area planning process, development densities <br /> needed to support public water/sewer extensions and <br /> techniques for limiting connections to such lines. <br /> The reports are related to both Rural Character and <br /> Hillsborough Cooperative Planning goals and due to be <br /> presented in September as well . <br />
