2 <br /> The proposed civil rights ordinance has been drafted by the <br /> county attorneys . The county attorney' s office has researched <br /> the law on each of these subjects. The civil rights ordinance <br /> provides for local administration of Federal and State laws <br /> prohibiting discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, <br /> sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status, or veteran <br /> status in the areas of employment, housing, public accomodations, <br /> and hate violence incidents . <br /> Staff and commission members have provided public information <br /> about the proposed ordinance in speaking with numerous local <br /> business and civic groups . Copies of the civil rights <br /> ordinance draft are available in the Orange County Public <br /> Library, the Chapel Hill Public Library, and the Clerk to the <br /> Commissioners ' office. The September 14 public hearing has been <br /> publicly advertised. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Board should receive citizen comments on the <br /> proposed civil rights ordinance. <br /> 2 <br />
