Link <br /> ext. 2300 <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBER- <br /> Hillsborough - 732-8181 <br /> Chapel Hill - 968-4501 <br /> Mebane - 227-2031 <br /> Durham - 688-7331 <br /> PURPOSE: To present the NACo 1993 Achievement Awards to this year' s <br /> two recipients, the Manager' s Office and the Emergency <br /> Management Services (EMS) Department. The awards are for <br /> programs/projects that were implemented in 1992 . <br /> BACKGROUND: The Manager' s Office received an award for the implementation <br /> of the "IN TOUCH WITH ORANGE COUNTY" project. This 24-hour <br /> computer information system provides citizens with <br /> information about county government and the community. It <br /> features a touch-screen computer connected to a video <br /> laserdisc player, a modem and a printer - which are all <br /> housed in a kiosk (cabinet) . The project includes two <br /> systems, one located in University Mall, and a mobile unit <br /> that is transported to various locations within the county. <br /> The EMS Department received an award for its "Intra- <br /> Departmental Employee Exchange" program. This orientation <br /> program was initiated to familiarize personnel from <br /> the various fire, emergency medical services, and law <br /> enforcement agencies with the operations of the Emergency <br /> Communications ( 9-1-1) Division. Telecommunicators are <br /> assigned to ride with law enforcement, fire and EMS units for <br /> a shift; and field personnel are assigned to work a shift in <br /> communications. The personnel are required to perform all <br /> allowable duties of the agency to which they have been <br /> assigned. This orientation has helped to provide insight and <br /> mutual understanding of the duties of the respective <br /> departments. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S) : The Manager recommends that the Board receive this as <br /> information and present the awards to the <br /> respective recipients. <br />
