6 <br /> Training And Development Calendar Fall 1993 <br /> Special Course Offerings <br /> (Section I) Introductory Spanish For Social Workers: In response to our <br /> 9/20/93-11/12/93 changing society and a need for Social Services employees to be able <br /> 12:30-2:30 pm Mondays to communicate with their Spanish-speaking clients, Personnel has <br /> 8:30-10:30 am Fridays contracted with Durham Technical Community College to offer an <br /> introductory Spanish course for Social Services employees. The <br /> Aging Conference Room course is designed to directly address the worker-client relationship. <br /> Topics will include sample interviews in both languages, key phrases <br /> to assist social workers in soliciting information from clients, typical <br /> social problem situations, and a comprehensive vocabulary. <br /> (Section II) Each class will meet for two hours twice a week for eight weeks for <br /> 9/20/93-11/12/93 a total of 32 hours. Personnel is assuming a portion of the course <br /> 3:00-5:00 pm Mondays fee, and departments will be expected to assume the remaining <br /> 10:45 am-12:45 pm Fridays portion of the special fee of $20 per participant plus $12.95 for the <br /> accompanying text, Spanish ar Social Workers. Class size limited to 20. <br /> Note: This course jg,1512 open other employees who need 1.12 <br /> 14 communicate midi clients in Spanish. <br /> General Course Offerings <br /> 11/10/93 GIS And You: This workshop is designed to introduce participants <br /> 9:00 am-12:00 Noon to the GIS (Geographic Information System) and the ways in which <br /> County departments are using the system. The session will also help <br /> Land Records Office participants understand how ARC/Info works and what it can do. <br /> The instructor' will be Roscoe Reeve, Land Records Manager and <br /> GIS Director. Class size limited to 15. <br /> 9/24/93 & 11/19/93 New Employee Orientation: You don't have to be a new employee <br /> 9:00 am-3:00 pm to attend this session! This orientation covers important personnel <br /> information such as position classification, salary administration, <br /> Government Services EEO and Sexual Harassment policies, the Disciplinary Procedure, <br /> Center Meeting Room Work Planning and Performance Review (WPPR), employee training <br /> and development, customer service orientation, and payroll <br /> information.
