1 <br /> ORANGE C O U N T Y <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: September 7, 1993 <br /> Action Agenda Item # - --F <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution Giving Notice of Adjustment in Salary <br /> for the Sheriff and Register of Deeds Positions <br /> DEPARTMENT: Personnel PUBLIC HEARING: Yes X No <br /> ATTACHMENT(S) : INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> Elaine Holmes, Personnel Director <br /> Proposed Resolution <br /> TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br /> Hillsborough -732-8181 <br /> Durham -688-7331 <br /> Mebane -227-2031 <br /> Chapel Hill -967-9251/968-4501 <br /> PURPOSE: To provide notice of adjustment in salary for the <br /> Sheriff and Register of Deeds positions <br /> BACKGROUND: As authorized by the North Carolina General <br /> Statutes 153A-92 and the Orange County Personnel <br /> Ordinance, the Board of Commissioners may adjust <br /> salaries, allowances and other compensation for the <br /> Sheriff and Register of Deeds positions. The Board of <br /> Commissioners must give notice of intention for <br /> adjustment no later than 14 days before the last day <br /> for filing notice of candidacy for the office. That <br /> date is February 7, 1994 . <br /> Attached is a copy of the proposed notice of <br /> adjustment in salary for the above elected officials. <br /> The Commissioners retain the right to adjust the <br /> minimum starting salary upward in accordance with the <br /> years of related experience held by the successful <br /> candidate. <br /> The proposed starting salary for the Sheriff 's <br /> position is Step 1 of Salary Grade 80 of the Orange <br /> County Classification and Pay Plan. The Step 1 salary <br /> is $47, 829. <br /> The proposed starting salary for the Register of <br /> Deeds' position is Step 1 of Salary Grade 78 of the <br /> Orange County Classification and Pay Plan. The Step 1 <br /> salary is $43,383. <br /> RECOMMENDATION: The Manager recommends the Board adopt the attached <br /> resolution. <br />
