RESOLUTION OPPOSING CP-3-93, A PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO TIIE <br /> 0 3` <br /> ORANGE COUNTY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br /> WHEREAS, Orange Water and Sewer Authority manages the Cane Creek Reservoir <br /> as one of two principle supply sources for more than 55,000 water users in Carrboro, <br /> Chapel Hill, and the University of North Carolina at. Chapel Hill; and <br /> I + <br /> WHEREAS, the Orange County Commissioners have scheduled a public hearing for • <br /> 11 <br /> May 24, 1993 to receive comments on CP-3-93, a proposed amendment to the County's �II <br /> Comprehensive Plan, which would create a Rural Neighborhood Activity Node at the 1 1 <br /> intersection of Orange Grove and Bradshaw Quarry Roads, approximately 11/z miles <br /> upstream of the Cane Creek Reservoir; and <br /> WHEREAS, the County's Comprehensive Plan describes a Rural Neighborhood <br /> Activity Node as "Land . . , that is appropriate for small-scale commercial uses <br /> characteristic of "Morn and Pop" convenience stores and gas stations;" and <br /> • <br /> WHEREAS, no such activity nodes currently exist in either University Lake or Cane <br /> Creek watersheds; and <br /> WHEREAS, Goal Number 10.8 of the Orange County Comprehensive Plan's Land <br /> Use Element states that "Commercial and industrial uses are inappropriate in the <br /> University Lake and Cane Creek watersheds." <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED; <br /> 1. That the Board of.Directors of Orange Water and Sewer Authority finds that the <br /> Comprehensive Plan amendment proposed in CP-3-93 is not supportive of the Authority's <br /> Cane Creek watershed protection interests, and contradicts Goal Number 10.8 of the <br /> Orange County Comprehensive Plan's Land Use Element. <br /> 2. That the Authority's Board of Directors urges the Orange County Board of <br /> Conuuissioners to deny CP-3-93. <br /> 3. That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Orange County Board of <br /> Commissioners, Carrboro Board of Aldermen, and Chapel Hill Town Council. <br /> Adopted this 22nd day of April 1993. <br /> James T.
