We have committed $1000 of agency funds to support Carter,as
well as the use of the 60+ raised, brick planters that we manage and maintain for the downtown community,
and our agency will be the fiscal agent for the project.
The Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership(CHOP) is a nonprofit agency that brings together the resources of the
Town, University and downtown community to maintain, enhance and promote downtown as the social,
cultural, and spiritual center of Chapel Hill through economic development.
Our Plan of Work 2016-2018 leads with an objective of being downtown's managing entity and economic
development leader by specifically pursuing arts endeavors. Whether it is music, food &drink, visual art, or
performances-there is no doubt that arts are an economic engine for our downtown and campus.
We fulfill this strategy by coordinating and sponsoring arts-related events, managing the 2"d Friday ArtWalk,
installing store-front installations, as well as partnering on arts-focused planning initiatives. Also we market
and promote the businesses, events, and artistic experiences that happen downtown.
Four years ago, I discovered Carter's creation in a grass-less patch around a newly planted tree on Franklin
Street. The word`DANCE'was emerging from the ground in soft, fluffy clover. I soared with intrigue over this
mysterious and inspiring display of street art.
What I find most exciting about Carter's proposal is the new element of engaging local youth through writing,
poetry, and performance. Floraffiti is exactly the kind of creative work that sets the tone for the engaging
sense of place that we are fostering downtown.
We hope you are as excited about this grant proposal as we are and will support Carter and the Floraffiti
project.
Thank you,
liddi(--
Meg McGurk
Executive Director
Chapel Hill Downtown Partnership
308 West Rosemary Street,Suite 202 Chapel Hill,NC 27516 P:919-967-9440 F:919-967-9475
www.downtawnchapelhill.cam
