It serves approximately 407 students in grades K-5 as well as two pre-K/ <br /> Head Start classrooms. The demographics of the school population are as follows. <br /> • Approximately 0.5% of students self-identify as Native American. <br /> • Approximately 23% of students self-identify as African American. <br /> • Approximately 13% of students self-identify as Latino. <br /> • Approximately 14% of students self-identify as Asian. <br /> • Approximately 5.5% of students self-identify as Multiracial and Other Race. <br /> • 26.53% of the student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch. <br /> o <br /> • 11% of students use English as a second language. <br /> • 11% of school population is identified as Exceptional Children including two self-contained <br /> classrooms of five children in each classroom. <br /> Ephesus Elementary School Arts Programs <br /> Ephesus Elementary School provides weekly instruction in art, music, and PE, to all students in <br /> grades K-5. Additionally, students in grades 1-5 study French two times per week for 20 minutes <br /> per classroom session. <br /> CE= <br /> The Ephesus PTA annually organizes several arts enrichment programs to further benefit students <br /> at the school. These include the following. <br /> 1. All students are invited to participate in the PTA Reflections Art Program each fall, and art <br /> materials are provided on demand for students enrolled in the Afterschool Program at the <br /> school who wish to participate. <br /> 2. The PTA sponsors an annual International Festival to increase students' exposure to other <br /> cultures, languages and geography. <br /> 3. The PTA contracts with The ArtsCenter (Carrboro) Arts in Schools program, and sponsors <br /> two to three cultural assemblies for all students throughout the school year. <br /> � <br /> 4. The PTA sponsors a HipHop Dance Instructor to work with the 5 th grade students to <br /> produce a videotaped 5th grade dance that is presented to families in video form during <br /> the 5th grade graduation ceremony at the end of each year. <br /> Additionally in the 2016-2017 school year, the PTA has contracted with Poet Jaki Shelton Green << <br /> to be a Resident Artist at the school.
