Damage Assessment Teams, including representatives from <br /> the Small Business Administration (SBA) , Federal Housing <br /> Admistration (FHA) , and Section 8 Housing began <br /> assessing the housing needs pertinent to their area and <br /> offering assistance. Representatives from the N.C. <br /> Division of Emergency Management were also involved. <br /> All access roads leading into the area were closed for <br /> security purposes - only residents of the community were <br /> allowed to enter. <br /> Fairview Baptist Church, located in the area affected by <br /> the tornado, opened Monday evening in response to <br /> community needs. The American Red Cross, Orange County <br /> Chapter opened a shelter at Orange High School to assist <br /> victims of the disaster. <br /> II . Final Assessments <br /> - There were 10 injured individuals transported to area <br /> hospitals. <br /> - There were 4 individuals sustaining minor injuries and <br /> treated at the scene. <br /> - There were two fatalities, Joe Terrell, a 53-year <br /> male, and Josh Hall, a 2-year old male. <br /> - Damage Assessment Teams (local, state and federal) <br /> completed the review of all areas within two days <br /> following the incident. Of the 162 sites reviewed, 84 <br /> structures received minor damage; 13 structures <br /> received major damage; and 53 structures were <br /> destroyed. Structural damage estimates totaled <br /> $1,953,000. <br /> III. Relief Efforts <br /> - Orange County Human Service Agencies, in conjunction <br /> with the American Red Cross and Orange Congregations <br /> in Mission (OCIM) , established a Service Center to <br /> assist tornado victims with their individual family <br /> needs. <br /> - A Distribution Center for clothing, furniture and <br /> household items was established. The receipt of <br /> donations and the allocation of goods were coordinated <br /> by James Russell, a local entrepreneur and Fran <br /> Phelan of the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce. <br /> 3 <br />
