- collecting and distributing comforters provided <br /> by Crown Crafts, Inc. to the victims; <br /> =- organizing and chairing "Project Love" , a <br /> =_—=-Christmas Drive for the tornado victims and their <br /> families. Recipients were referred from the <br /> Service Center and identified as eligible for <br /> this project. Sponsors were matched with 81 <br /> families, which included 142 children. Many of <br /> the sponsors also <br /> brought gifts for the adults in the household. <br /> - distributing Christmas food baskets to <br /> approximately 45 households; and <br /> - providing financial support to individual <br /> families. <br /> P. Administration <br /> The administration and overall implementation of <br /> the recovery process was coordinated through the <br /> Orange County Manager' s Office. The staff <br /> provided guidance and support in all relief efforts <br /> involving emergency and human service assistance. <br /> In addition, communications with the media were <br /> primarily centralized in the Manager' s Office. By <br /> centralizing contact with the media, we sought to <br /> provide factual and timely information - thereby <br /> ensuring accuracy and maintaining rumor control. <br /> Press releases were disseminated daily to provide <br /> status reports. Also, press conferences were held <br /> and interviews with broadcast media (radio and <br /> television) were routinely conducted. <br /> VI . Comments <br /> The respondents to the survey indicated that the overall <br /> recovery process was a success and well implemented. <br /> However, to ensure preparedness for future emergencies <br /> or disasters, the committee recommended that there <br /> should be a continued coordination of efforts between <br /> the public and private sectors. <br /> In order to maintain continued coordination of services, <br /> the committee suggested that an ongoing committee be <br /> established. This committee could meet periodically to <br /> discuss issues and provide updates regarding agency <br /> programs and services. All respondents agreed to <br /> provide a representative to serve as a member of this <br /> group. <br /> 17 <br />
