The majority of the cases involved housing needs. <br /> Those needs included assistance in underpinning <br /> -- obile homes; the hauling of donated or purchased <br /> -tied mobile homes; repairs on dwellings, both <br /> interior and exterior; and payment of mobile home <br /> lot deposits and rentals. <br /> L. <br /> r <br /> G. American Red Cross - Orange County Chapter <br /> The Orange County Chapter of the American Red Cross <br /> responded immediately and established a fully <br /> staffed shelter by 4 :40 am at Orange High School. <br /> On-site feeding and sleeping facilities were made <br /> available, as well as medical staff to assess and <br /> treat individuals sustaining injuries. <br /> By early afternoon, trained volunteers were <br /> providing financial assistance to the tornado <br /> victims so that emergency needs such as food, <br /> clothing, shelter, fuel, individual comfort kits <br /> (personal hygiene items) were provided to victims <br /> who registered at the shelter. Emergency <br /> communications and damage assessments were also <br /> provided by trained Red Cross volunteers. <br /> One of the Red Cross ' s resources, Hoke ' s Catering, <br /> provided as a donation to the community, three <br /> complete hot meals daily for 2 1/2 days. Along <br /> with other local food venders, a total of 1873 <br /> meals were served at the shelter or delivered to <br /> victims and emergency workers. Snacks and <br /> beverages were available 24 hours daily. <br /> A total of 135 cases were opened, with all families <br /> being assisted financially. There were: <br /> - 123 home visits, <br /> - 6 hospital visits, and <br /> - 64 Red Cross nursing forms completed. <br /> Additional assistance provided by the Red Cross <br /> included: <br /> - building & repair materials, <br /> - household furnishings and major appliances, <br /> - occupational supplies & equipment, <br /> - rental deposits and rent, <br /> 11 <br />
