OCIM provided financial assistance for Christmas
gifts designated for the children of the tornado
_fmilies.
In order to provide food services to the tornado
victims, additional volunteers were activated to
provide sorting and the storage, stocking, and the
distribution of food. As many as 75 additional
volunteers participated in this process. The
pantry was opened an additional 80 hours through
March 1993 .
OCIM participated in workshops for tornado relief
victims, explaining the organization' s mission and
how it relates to emergencies. The staff attended
fund raisers, and coordinated efforts to formally
receive funds and donations. Also, the Consumer
Credit Counseling Director played an active role in
providing credit counseling assistance to several
clients.
Through the receipt of grant funding, a part-time
position was made available to ensure the
continued coordination of the tornado relief
efforts following the closure of the Service
Center. This 20-hour per week position was staffed
by Judy Cox (OCIM' s representative at the Service
Center) . OCIM provided office space and equipment,
mileage, and telephone service for this position.
Through this position, OCIM became an advocate and
liaison for the families of the stricken area.
In addition to the part-time position dedicated
specifically toward tornado relief efforts, other
OCIM employees provided approximately 961.5 hours
of assistance.
Orange Congregations in Mission received, through
the end of March, donations totaling $100,936.57 .
Expenditures through this time frame were
$61,370.28 . The remaining balance is $39,566.29.
Funds from foundations, associations, and religious
affiliations were earmarked for administration or
food.
As of June 1993, 107 households presented for
assistance. All files have been closed except
for one remaining case. Funds were distributed
only to those families with referrals from the
Service Center.
10
