Housing and Community Development, as well as OCIM <br /> and JOCCA to assist with the Service Center. Two <br /> DSS supervisors trained the staff; coordinated <br /> services with the Red Cross and other agencies and <br /> churches; and provided oversight for day to day <br /> operations. Three DSS social workers also provided <br /> VI case management services which included intake, <br /> assessment of victims ' needs, counseling, referrals <br /> to community resources and follow-up to ensure <br /> needs were met. <br /> DSS also provided leadership by structuring a <br /> Distribution Sub-Committee of the Unmet Needs <br /> Committee. The sub-committee organized a process <br /> to assess individual needs and decide which group, <br /> either OCIM or Fairview Baptist Church, should be <br /> requested to meet those needs through the <br /> financial contributions received. <br /> The DSS Director, Marti Pryor-Cook, served as chair <br /> of the Unmet Needs Committee, which provided <br /> structure for Human Services agencies to work <br /> jointly to serve victims. <br /> The agency identified approximately 25 sponsors for <br /> the "Christmas Gift Drive for Tornado Victims" and <br /> assisted in the coordination of this effort. <br /> The DSS provided six employees to assist in the <br /> relief efforts. They contributed over 1000 hours <br /> of service, totaling approximately $10,000 -$15, 000 <br /> in personnel costs. <br /> The Service Center: <br /> - assessed approximately 90 households, <br /> - made over 100 referrals to other services, and <br /> - coordinated recovery efforts. <br /> The agency continues to serve on the Distribution <br /> Sub-Committee and the Director chairs the Unmet <br /> Needs Committee. Any victims still in need of <br /> assistance are being aided by the social worker <br /> hired by OCIM to coordinate these efforts. <br /> 7 <br />
