Jody are not selected, they need to find other work as soon as possible. It would be unfortunate to 8
delay selection and put them in a situation of having to make other plans that make it impossible
for them to undertake this final phase of the project. From our perspective, as our grants adminis-
trator Lloyd Childers advises, we do not require a formal request for proposals in a project that
continues from one phase to another in this way. (For example, Duplin County's survey is staged
through two fiscal years, but as they continued with the same principal investigator, we simply
wrote an additional contract for the next phase. This would be possible here if desired.)
I hope that these observations will be useful to your commission as they consider the plans for
this next phase. We believe that this type of grant will be a useful one in assuring continuity and
timeliness in production of survey publications, and thus enhancing the educational and planning
value of the architectural survey. Please let me know if I can provide any further assistance.
Sincerely,
, / •
Catherine W.
