2 <br /> Following a discussion of the options, it was the <br /> concensus of Commission members to use a "pool" <br /> approach; e.g. , group of potential consultants from <br /> which one could be selected. The Commission also <br /> asked that someone from Archives & History or <br /> another source be invited to attend a Commission <br /> meeting and discuss the steps involved in preparing <br /> an inventory publication. <br /> Following the Commission meeting, the Planning <br /> Director spoke with Claudia Brown and Catherine <br /> Bishir of the State Historic Preservation Office. <br /> Ms. Bishir has responded to the questions and <br /> concerns of the Commission through the attached July <br /> 14 , 1993 letter. The major points contained in her <br /> correspondence are as follows: <br /> 1. The grant awarded to Orange County for the <br /> manuscript preparation was the first of its <br /> kind. The grant was awarded because of Orange <br /> County's desire to proceed immediately to <br /> preparation of an inventory publication. <br /> 2 . The principal tasks involved in Phase III <br /> [manuscript preparation] include: <br /> a. Expand and edit overview essay from Phases <br /> I and II to incorporate additional <br /> historical research, and provide further <br /> analysis of architectural trends and their <br /> relationships to county history and <br /> statewide trends; <br /> b. Select properties to be represented in <br /> publication [Typical surveys include about <br /> 500 properties. ] ; <br /> c. Determine order of presentation of entries <br /> [e.g. , by township or other method] ; <br /> d. Expand and edit entries on properties as <br /> needed; <br /> e. Make additional photographs of properties <br /> as needed to correct for lighting problems <br /> or other conditions; <br /> f. Order publication size photographs; <br /> g. Locate and obtain prints of selected local <br /> documentary photographs; <br /> h. Obtain any HABS drawings needed; <br />
