BACKGROUND: At its January 19, 1993 meeting, the Board of Commissioners authorized the County Manager to apply for $15,000 from the Survey and Planning Grant Program administered by the State Historic Preservation Office. The Planning Director was notified on March 15, 1993 that the application had been approved, and the Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to accept the grant on April 5, 1993 . The grant amount plus the County's matching share will total $30,000 and be used to conduct an inventory of archaeological sites in the unincorporated portions of Orange County ($20,000 ) and prepare the manuscript for the countywide inventory ( $10,000) . The County share would consist of $15,000 cash plus a $5,200 in-kind contribution. Professional services funds requested as part of the Planning Department ' s FY 1993-94 budget would be used to cover the cash match. The in-kind contribution includes supplies and equipment expense, and Planning Department staff time on the project. Personnel and operating expenses will be covered in the FY 1993-94 Planning Department budget. The Historic Preservation Commission considered the selection of a consultant to prepare the historic inventory manuscript at its May 26, 1993 meeting.
