ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: June 12, 2007 <br />Action Agenda p <br />Item No. ~~ I <br />SUBJECT: Contract Renewal with Town of Carrboro for County Provision of Emergency <br />.Animal Rescue Services (EARS) <br />DEPARTMENT: Animal Services Department PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Contract <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Bob Marotto, Animal Services Director, <br />986-2287 <br />PURPOSE: To approve a contract renewal with the Town of Carrboro to provide the Town with <br />emergency animal rescue services during FY 2007-2008. <br />BACKGROUND: The attached contract has been developed and reviewed with the Town of <br />Carrboro to provide for the continuation of emergency animal rescue services to the Town,. July <br />1, 2007 through June 30, 2008. Based upon review by the Animal Services Department and the <br />Budget Department there is no change in the direct service delivery or in the level of service and <br />no increase in cost to the Town. <br />Under this contract EARS workers respond to animal injuries, animal cruelty, animal rescue, <br />animals in need of assistance, rabies suspects, and all calls in the Town limits Carrboro after <br />regular hours of service (that is, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.), Monday through Friday, and 24 <br />hours on Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. <br />FINANCIAL. IMPACT: The proposed contract renewal will provide revenue to the County in the <br />amount of $6,000 for FY2007-2008. This amount is the same as for FY2006-2007. In <br />consultation with the Budget Department, it has been determined that this amount fully recovers <br />all of the direct costs entailed by providing the services required by the contract. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The, Manager recommends that the Board approve the contract <br />renewal and authorize the Chair to sign the contract with the Town of Carrboro for Emergency <br />Animal Rescue Services in the amount of $6,000 pending final review by staff and the County <br />Attorney. <br />
