sterilization procedures. This fee increase will serve not only to assist Dr. Miller in recovery of
actual costs of performing the sterilization procedures as well as maintaining the same level of
service, but also assisting to ensure continuance of positive relations between Dr. James Miller
and Orange County Animal Services. This is the first adjustment of the sterilization rate since
the County enfiered into contracts of this kind beginning July 1, 2005.
The sterilization surgeries authorized by this contract will continue to be performed by Dr. James
Miller, DVM, at the North Churton Street Animal Hospital in Hillsborough. Authorization of this
contract renewal with Dr. Miller will continue to enable the Orange County Animal Shelter to
sustain the sterilization capacity that is critical to the adoption of sterilized animals that do not
contribute to the problem of pet overpopulation.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Dr. Miller will be compensated on an actual "fee for. service" basis at the
flat rate of $63 per sterilization surgery. The Manager's recommended budget for FY07-08
includes sufficient cost and revenue projections to cover authorization of this contract.
RECOMMENDATION (S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the contract
renewal and authorize the Chair to sign the contract with Dr. James Miller, DVM, DBA North
Churton Street Animal Hospital, pending final review by staff and the County Attorney.
